Exploring the relationship between books and envelopes as special types of containers, participants will create both and then join them together in surprising ways. Participants will make an envelope-style book, a single-sheet book incorporating envelopes and an accordion book incorporating envelopes in different ways.
Beginning her studies at Penland School of Crafts, Sharon Sharp completed her first 8-week book-arts and papermaking concentration in 2002. Since then, she has become increasingly captivated by nontraditional book forms that incorporate widely varying features such as origami folds, tunnels, pop-ups, and envelopes. She specializes in designing and creating one-of-a-kind and limited-edition artist’s books.
Studying with renowned book artists and continuing to hone her skillset by completing intensive workshops, Sharp has taught bookmaking at the Florence Thomas Memorial Art School (Glendale Springs, NC), among other places and has completed A+ Schools Teaching Artists training.
Sharon Sharp’s works are represented by Vamp & Tramp Booksellers which are held in corporate and private collections, as well as in the special-collections libraries of Denison University, the University of Vermont and the Savannah College of Art & Design’s Savannah campus. One of her books appears in 500 Handmade Books; and numerous others have been exhibited regionally and nationally, and The Jones House Community Center in Boone hosted a solo exhibition of her works in 2011.
