The word Yoga comes from the ancient language, Sanskrit. It literally translates to the word yoke. The practice of yoga is intended to yoke or join the mind, body, and spirit. There are many branches of yoga that move toward achieving this goal. In this class we engage in a body-centered yoga practice where we move our bodies into poses (asanas) and become observers to our experience. By offering up the mind and body to the experience we allow ourselves to touch upon the truth within. We learn to be fully in the moment by focusing on our breath. The results of this practice tend to be strength, flexibility, wisdom, and ease.
We are fortunate to be able to be a part of this ancient lineage in the contemporary setting of the Turchin Center for Visual Arts. At play is the integration of the old and the new as well as the inspiration of the ever-changing exhibitions. These concepts illustrate the very nature of Yoga.
About the Instructor
Vicki Rodriquez has been teaching yoga for ten years. Eight of those years has been as a Boone resident, facilitating classes in various locations around the county. She is grateful to be teaching at the Turchin Center for the past few years where she continues to be inspired by the creations around her. Other areas of the healing arts field she has participated in has helped to shape and inform her yoga practice. She holds a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling with a certificate in expressive arts therapy and has been practicing Vipassana meditation for ten years. Her yoga classes invite the student to access and build on muscle strength as well as to surrender and find expansion in the joints. She is always interested in witnessing the mind as the body comes into each circumstance. Join us Saturday morning as move toward the capacity for greater resiliency through simply connection.
