Stainless steel, recycled steel, cast iron
120″ x 54″ x 54″
Chrysalis is about emergence and transformation. Mike Roig made the small cast iron figure at an iron-pour in Tucumcari, NM. Her wings are actually fabricated from steel and then were held in the sand mold as the molten iron flowed in to fuse them into the figure. She sat on a shelf in his studio for several years until he had the idea of giving her her current dramatic setting.
