After 35 years working in the furniture industry Beau Lyday now makes unique furniture using reclaimed materials from barns he deconstructs. His work celebrates the age, texture and character of the wood and metal. “While I see myself as a furniture maker, sometimes – especially in metal, an idea transcends function and becomes sculpture”. That is exciting and truly rewarding and I find myself going in that direction as an artist.”
I feel that a piece of art does not have to be shocking to evoke that wow feeling. Instead a work can mesmerize a person, moving one to a place of safety or sanctuary and instilling a sense of peace. In these unfathomable violent times there is a special need for healing art.
Gothic doorway is a Recto type double arched doorway. It can lead to anywhere. It is fascinating to me, to use 800 year old layout construction methods to create a gothic arch.
